Potato Pancakes

I am going to categorize this as both a breakfast and a side dish. In my house, potato pancakes are awesome as a breakfast when sided with bacon and eggs, but they are also a great side for smoked sausage.

Ingredients:

5 potatoes 1 egg 1/4c flour 2tb grated onion (squeeze liquid out) salt and […]

Fried Cornmeal Mush

**As Seen In: Scratch Cooking, a 400+ page e-cookbook with hundreds of from-scratch recipes!**

This is one of my husbands favorite breakfasts. I don’t make it often because it requires an overnight chill (and breakfast is normally not something I plan ahead) but when I do it’s always a treat.

Ingredients:

3c water […]

Dry Onion Soup Mix

**As Seen In: Scratch Cooking, a 400+ page e-cookbook with hundreds of from-scratch recipes!**

This is my go-to recipe for meals that call for an envelope of dry onion soup mix. We love to toss this with a cookie sheet full of peeled, cubed potatoes (bite sized) and enough vegetable oil […]

Delicious on a salad!

Ingredients:

10 slices of bread, cubed 1/2 tsp basil 1/2 tsp celery salt (OR 1/2 tsp salt and 1/8 tsp celery seed or dehydrated celery powder) 1/4 tsp oregano 1/4 tsp […]

Beef Tips & Gravy Over Noodles

This is a delicious meal, and when cooked right the meat is so tender! I have cooked this over the wood stove and also in a dutch oven on the regular stove. The key is to keep it simmering, not boiling.

Ingredients:

1lb stew meat (I cut chuck roast into bite sized pieces) 2TB flour […]

My Woodstove Kitchen

When we moved in here we were certain we wanted a wood stove for heating our home because it would be much cheaper than our other option (propane), there was no risk of a shortage (we could be certain we had enough wood before the season, but last year our neighbors got shorted through the […]
