White Sauce

This is a great base for many other sauces, or use as is to add creaminess to casseroles and skillet meals.


  • 2tb butter
  • 2tb flour
  • salt
  • white pepper
  • 1 cup milk


  1. Melt butter in a skillet over medium high heat.  Once melted, add flour, salt and pepper and whisk until bubbly and cooked – it will begin to turn a slightly tan color.  Add the milk slowly and continue whisking until thick, about 3-4 minutes more.

This freezes wonderfully.  Freeze in plastic or glass containers once cool.
