Dry Gravy Mix

Gravy made from meat drippings is always going to be the best route for flavor and less fake stuff, but sometimes recipes call for dry gravy mixes, and sometimes you forget and toss the drippings and need gravy in a pinch.  This dry mix is great for that.  You can make chicken or beef mixes and store them right in your pantry until you need them.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 3tb beef or chicken granules or crumbled bouillon
  • 3/4 c plus 1 tb flour
  • 1/2 tsp pepper

Mix the above ingredients and store in your pantry.  If you wish to make gravy from the mix, melt 4-1/2 tsp butter over medium high heat then add two tablespoons of mix.  Cook until the mixture is lightly browned, then slowly whisk in 3/4 c of water.  Cook until thickened, then serve.  This will make about 1 cup of gravy.  Use two tablespoons of mix in recipes calling for a dry gravy packet.
