Welcome to the subscription based blog for K7 Farm – “That Teaching Farm” located in Michigan. My name is Sarah, and my husband and I own K7 Farm. My passion is teaching the skills that have become a part of our lives over the past almost 20 years. I teach homesteading classes from my farm and have had many requests for online content over the years. Between that, and the many people asking if I’ll ever write a cookbook again, I hope this blog will provide both education and inspiration as we teach the skills that have become a part of our lives, motivate and inspire you in the kitchen with our extensive scratch cooking recipe collection, and share our day-to-day life as modern day homesteaders. Homesteading for us isn’t a hobby or something fun to do, it’s a way of life!

While I do plan to eventually write a second cookbook, this site will serve as a means to get you the recipes you always ask for (including recipes from my original cookbook, plus many more), without having to wait on me to get around to writing the book 😉 I will include helpful tips with each recipe as necessary, and as always I will only post recipes that our family actually uses and enjoys. You’ll find not only recipes for meals, but also ingredients and staples, too. We don’t follow any strict diets or ways of eating, but we are not big on desserts or sugary snacks so you won’t find very much of that here.

Any new content posted on the farm page will be posted here. Having a subscription to the blog gives you access to information that is organized and easy to refer back to again and again. To make things simple, we have a basic yearly subscription.

Disclaimer: There is no fancy-schmancy photography and videography here. There is no film crew and no employees. It’s just me (mom) sharing our lifestyle, recipes and stories in hopes of inspiring and educating those interested in it. My house and farm is lived in and well loved, as you will see. And my time for learning new technological stuff is extremely limited, so I do the best I can! If you’re here to learn, you’re in the right place. But if you’re here for pro-level photography and videos with a lot of wow-factor and entertainment, you won’t find that here. I am just showing you our life and our homesteading journey – what works best for us and our situation. The information I share here is not the only way to do things, it’s just how we do things.

For some basic stats for anyone curious, we have 10 children (yes, they’re all ours, haha), grow about 5 acres of vegetables and share produce through our farm share and sell bulk produce to individuals to can. Several kids and my husband hunt, I process deer each fall for our community of hunters, we raise 100% of our own meat and grow about 85-90% of everything else, we have a milk cow and are raising our second heifer for a family milk cow, I can over 1,000 jars of food each year, 95% of our meals are cooked from scratch at home, I am a seed producer for a popular seed company and teach people how to bake bread, can food, make maple syrup, make soap, butcher animals, raise meat birds, save seed from their garden, cook, and so much more. I happily field questions from people who ask them, mentor new gardeners, offer garden consultations, encourage backyard food gardens and was a certified Master Gardener through Michigan State University Extensions. The content I share will be focused on all of these things! All new content that I add to this blog is also added to our farm page and my personal facebook page.
