{"id":1186,"date":"2015-08-09T20:00:56","date_gmt":"2015-08-09T20:00:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.k7farm.com\/blog\/?p=1186"},"modified":"2016-12-23T04:39:25","modified_gmt":"2016-12-23T04:39:25","slug":"green-bean-skillet-side","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.k7farm.com\/blog\/?p=1186","title":{"rendered":"Green Bean Skillet Side"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Green beans are ready in abundance from the garden this time of year!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1lb green beans, ends trimmed and cut into bite size pieces<\/li>\n<li>1c onion, small chunks<\/li>\n<li>2 garlic cloves, minced<\/li>\n<li>1\/2c red pepper, chopped into small bits<\/li>\n<li>2tb bacon grease (or 1tb butter and 1 tb olive oil)<\/li>\n<li>1c chicken broth<\/li>\n<li>salt and pepper to taste<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Melt grease in a skillet over medium heat. \u00a0Add garlic and onion, sautee until soft.<\/li>\n<li>Add green beans and cook uncovered, stirring occasionally until they begin to turn bright green.<\/li>\n<li>Add chicken broth, red pepper, salt and pepper.<\/li>\n<li>Turn heat to low, cover skillet leaving it open a crack and cook until beans are tender, about 20-30 minutes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>**If you have canned green beans, you can cut a lot of cook time out. I raise the heat to medium high\/high after sauteeing the onion and allow the chicken broth to deglaze the pan. \u00a0Then I reduce the heat, add the beans, pepper and seasonings and cook until the pepper is soft and the dish is heated through &#8211; maybe 10 minutes.
