{"id":803,"date":"2015-02-11T21:11:06","date_gmt":"2015-02-11T21:11:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.k7farm.com\/blog\/?p=803"},"modified":"2016-12-23T04:39:28","modified_gmt":"2016-12-23T04:39:28","slug":"venison-barley-soup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.k7farm.com\/blog\/?p=803","title":{"rendered":"Venison Barley Soup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.k7farm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/IMG_1601-e1423688966403.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-804\" src=\"http:\/\/www.k7farm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/IMG_1601-e1423688966403-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1601\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.k7farm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/IMG_1601-e1423688966403-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/www.k7farm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/IMG_1601-e1423688966403-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.k7farm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/IMG_1601-e1423688966403-112x150.jpg 112w, http:\/\/www.k7farm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/IMG_1601-e1423688966403-400x533.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After canning venison, I noticed one of the jars didn&#8217;t seal. \u00a0Today I added a little of this and a little of that and put together a fantastic barley soup to use that quart of venison. \u00a0I used some home canned veggies from the basement for this soup but you could always use fresh &#8211; just cook it a little longer. \u00a0If you are using quick cooking barley and fresh vegetables, add the barley as the veggies are just beginning to soften so the barley doesn&#8217;t get mushy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1\/2 large onion, diced<\/li>\n<li>4 garlic cloves, minced<\/li>\n<li>olive oil, for sauteeing<\/li>\n<li>6c beef broth (or venison, if you have it)<\/li>\n<li>1 quart diced venison<\/li>\n<li>1 quart green beans<\/li>\n<li>1 quart carrots<\/li>\n<li>1-6oz. can tomato paste<\/li>\n<li>5 tomatoes, crushed<\/li>\n<li>2tb worcestershire sauce<\/li>\n<li>salt and pepper to taste<\/li>\n<li>2c barley<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Heat oil over medium-high heat in a stock pot and sautee onion until soft. \u00a0Add garlic, cook for about 30 seconds then add beef broth.<\/li>\n<li>Add remaining ingredients and simmer until vegetables and barley are soft &#8211; this will vary depending on the type of barley you used. \u00a0Quick cooking barley will cook in less time.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>After canning venison, I noticed one of the jars didn&#8217;t seal.
