{"id":684,"date":"2015-01-27T02:36:01","date_gmt":"2015-01-27T02:36:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.k7farm.com\/blog\/?p=684"},"modified":"2016-12-23T04:39:22","modified_gmt":"2016-12-23T04:39:22","slug":"breaded-fried-chicken","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.k7farm.com\/blog\/?p=684","title":{"rendered":"Breaded Fried Chicken"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.k7farm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_1147.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-685\" src=\"http:\/\/www.k7farm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_1147-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1147\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.k7farm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_1147-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.k7farm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_1147-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.k7farm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_1147-150x112.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.k7farm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_1147-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I know this isn&#8217;t going to be healthy. \u00a0But it&#8217;s good. \u00a0Every once in a while I pull out the fryer and fry some of this chicken. \u00a0It can be frozen once fried so you can make up a bunch and use it for chicken nuggets, or to top a <a title=\"Oriental Chicken Salad\" href=\"http:\/\/www.k7farm.com\/blog\/?p=681\">oriental chicken salad<\/a>. \u00a0It tastes so similar to the breaded chicken fingers found at restaurants. \u00a0No matter how many chicken &#8216;nugget&#8217; or chicken finger recipes I tried, I could never replicate the commercial varieties. \u00a0Admittedly, I think they are pretty tasty, depending on the brand. \u00a0I am not in favor of the long list of ingredients I can&#8217;t pronounce, so in this case even though it may not be necessarily healthier (it is fried, after all), I at least know what is going into it.<\/p>\n<p>There is a bit of effort that goes into this. \u00a0In three separate containers (I use pie pans) you will make three separate coatings &#8211; a dusting, a batter, and a breading. \u00a0You will take your chicken and press it into the dusting, then cover it with the batter, and finally it will roll through the breading before heading into hot oil. \u00a0A lot of the same ingredients are used in all three batters. \u00a0I coat about 6-8 small chicken breasts, sliced then pounded thin, then sliced again before serving.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dusting<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1c whole wheat flour<\/li>\n<li>1c all purpose flour<\/li>\n<li>1ts garlic powder<\/li>\n<li>1 ts onion powder<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 ts salt<\/li>\n<li>1-1\/2 ts baking powder<\/li>\n<li>1ts paprika<\/li>\n<li>1ts black pepper<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Batter<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3\/4 c all purpose flour<\/li>\n<li>1c whole wheat flour<\/li>\n<li>1ts garlic powder<\/li>\n<li>1 ts onion powder<\/li>\n<li>1-1\/2 ts baking powder<\/li>\n<li>1-1\/2 ts salt<\/li>\n<li>2ts paprika<\/li>\n<li>1ts black pepper<\/li>\n<li>1-1\/2 tb vegetable oil<\/li>\n<li>1c milk<\/li>\n<li>2 eggs<\/li>\n<li>1c water<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Coating<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1c whole wheat flour<\/li>\n<li>1 c all purpose flour<\/li>\n<li>2ts garlic powder<\/li>\n<li>2ts onion powder<\/li>\n<li>2ts paprika<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 ts salt<\/li>\n<li>1-1\/2 ts baking powder<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Heat oil to 350F.<\/li>\n<li>Slice chicken breasts, then pound them to uniform size.<\/li>\n<li>Place them in the dusting, cover both sides, then do the same with the batter and breading.<\/li>\n<li>Stick a few pieces of chicken in the fryer at a time. \u00a0Fry about 3-5 minutes, turning halfway through.<\/li>\n<li>Remove from oil and set on a drying rack to drain any excess oil.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>I know this isn&#8217;t going to be healthy.
