{"id":394,"date":"2014-12-02T05:04:30","date_gmt":"2014-12-02T05:04:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.k7farm.com\/blog\/?p=394"},"modified":"2016-12-23T04:39:27","modified_gmt":"2016-12-23T04:39:27","slug":"rice-pilaf-with-orzo-or-broken-spaghetti","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.k7farm.com\/blog\/?p=394","title":{"rendered":"Rice Pilaf with Orzo (or broken spaghetti)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The original recipe in <a href=\"http:\/\/k7farm.com\/store\/index.php?id_product=8&amp;controller=product\" target=\"_blank\">Scratch Cooking<\/a> calls for orzo pasta, but do you know how often I am in a regular grocery store? \u00a0I started cooking this dish when I had a smaller family and shopped in normal grocery stores. \u00a0Now, \u00a0I typically buy basic ingredients each month, all of which I can find in bulk (I have a family of 8 to cook for) at the bulk food stores like GFS and Sam&#8217;s Club. \u00a0You just don&#8217;t find pasta like this in those stores. \u00a0I decided that a trip into a grocery store just for orzo wouldn&#8217;t do, but I love the taste of this rice side dish. \u00a0I discovered broken spaghetti (broken into pretty small bits &#8211; half inch to an inch) works just as well. \u00a0Send a kid to work with a fistful of spaghetti &#8211; they are great at breaking them into bits!<\/p>\n<p>Ingredients:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2tb butter<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 c onion<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 c rice<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 c orzo pasta &#8211; or broken spaghetti \u00a0(uncooked)<\/li>\n<li>1c chicken broth<\/li>\n<li>1c water<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp salt<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Method:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Melt the butter in a skillet or pot over medium high heat. \u00a0Add the onion and saute until soft and translucent.<\/li>\n<li>Add rice and orzo and cook until the grains begin to brown.<\/li>\n<li>Add water, broth and salt. \u00a0Bring to a boil, cover and reduce to a simmer for 2o minutes. \u00a0Or, once the rice has been brown and toasted, add it and the liquids to \u00a0a rice cooker and cook until done.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The original recipe in Scratch Cooking calls for orzo pasta, but do you know how often I am in a regular grocery store?
